What Are Dental Implants?
A dental implant is a long term solution to a missing tooth. It consists of a titanium screw that is placed below the gum line, and a crown that connects to the screw fixing it into place. A dental implant is designed to replace the natural structure of a tooth root and the tooth that sits above the gum line.

Dental Implants Consultation
We fully understand that as a patient considering dental implants, you may be apprehensive about your missing tooth and indeed the procedure itself. The consultation stage is one of the best ways to put your mind at ease, as we will take a full dental history and explain everything you need to know about the procedure.
A thorough examination will also take place involving x-rays and impressions. We will also send you a referral for a CT scan so that we can check your bone density and volume.
Once we are happy that you will make a good candidate for dental implants, we will arrange for the procedure to go ahead.
What Does A Dental Implant Procedure Involve?
The dental implant procedure is split into two main appointments. The first is the dental implant itself, and the second is to fit the new tooth onto the implants.
Implanting the titanium screw into the jaw is straightforward taking around 1 hour to complete under local anaesthetic. Some mild discomfort is to be expected, though we will give you plenty of aftercare advice.
It can take anywhere from 3 to 6 months to fully heal from dental implant surgery. After this time impressions will be taken so that we can fit the tooth onto the implant, which will be a crown or a bridge depending on how many implants have been placed.
Within about 2 weeks following your final treatment, you will have a fully functioning tooth that feels like your own. The implant is designed to be a permanent fixture, though this will also depend on how well you look after your teeth and gums.
Dental Bridges
Another option to replace a missing tooth is a dental bridge.
Dental bridges are a fixed prosthesis that is cemented in place. Adhered to the neighbouring teeth, bridges can treat several missing teeth in one go. There are several types of dental bridges that are available.
Bridges can be an alternative to removable partial dentures depending on the number of teeth that are missing, in addition to the condition of the teeth on either side of the missing teeth.
Having a bridge fitted requires two appointments. The first appointment involves creating impressions to send to the laboratory who will create your bridge. The second appointment will be the fitting of the bridge.
Regular checkups in addition to diligent dental hygiene are needed to maintain your bridge. All of which will be explained to you by your dentist.
Partial Dentures
A partial denture is designed to replace missing teeth. It can have several different designs, including a piece that clips around neighbouring teeth, or a more traditional style denture that mimics the look of your soft palate.
Similar to other methods of replacing a lost tooth, dentures are made by taking an impression of your mouth. The denture will then be formed in a lab and fitted in separate appointments.
Dentures are designed to be worn during the day and removed at night. They will not feel like your natural teeth versus an implant or bridge, though they will allow you to chew properly.
Partial dentures may also be a viable option if you are not a suitable candidate for dental implants or a bridge.

Crown Repair Dentist
If you have noticed your dental crown is not fitting well, has become loose, damaged or dislodged then a repair will be necessary. A loose crown can sometimes qualify as a dental emergency. Be sure to contact us as soon as you notice any issues with your crown.
