Did you know that you can replace any dark metallic fillings with a white porcelain material, giving your teeth a more natural appearance? Many patients are opting for this cosmetic option to make their smiles more attractive. We offer this treatment at One Dental in Rochdale, and our patients are very happy with the results.
Metal fillings were a popular choice for fillings because they last very long, but in recent years, tooth-coloured filling materials have become more advanced and reliable, making them the ideal choice for an aesthetic tooth restoration. Having your existing metal fillings removed is a safe procedure and your new fillings can be placed in the same appointment. The new filling is made from a very hard substance and will withstand the forces in your mouth when you bite and chew over a long period of time. This will allow you to smile without a metallic glint in sight, giving your teeth a more natural appearance overall.
If you need a new filling due to tooth decay then white fillings are also recommended as a good solution that is both aesthetic and functional.
If your teeth are stained, chipped, or not properly aligned, veneers are a good treatment option to consider because they look like natural teeth and don’t require a major procedure to have them placed.
A veneer is a very thin, tooth-coloured piece of porcelain (like a false finger nail) that is bonded on top of your own tooth. Based on your needs, we can adjust the shape of your veneers to make your teeth overall look longer and or closer together. You can have just one veneer or a whole set, also known as a smile makeover.
For a single stained tooth we can also match the precise shade of porcelain to give it a lighter appearance and fit in with the surrounding teeth. Veneers can also be used to close small gaps, when braces are not suitable. If one tooth is slightly out of position, a veneer can sometimes be fitted to bring it into line with the others.
Inlays & Onlays
Inlays and onlays are two types of restorations that are used to fix certain cavities in teeth. An inlay is a small filling that fits into the biting surface of a tooth while an onlay covers a larger area of the tooth and is better suited to bigger cavities. Gold was traditionally used for these types of restorations, however in recent times, hard-wearing tooth-coloured porcelain has become a more popular choice of material. This is more aesthetic way to restore the teeth and creates a more natural-looking smile.
At One Dental, our skilled team can restore teeth with inlays and onlays with great results for our patients. Inlays and onlays are made in a dental laboratory by a technician, with the help of impressions taken of your teeth. While these are being made, you will wear a temporary filling. When your inlay or onlay is ready we will bond it into place using a special adhesive, after removing the temporary filling. Your restored tooth will not only look like a real tooth but also function like one, allowing you to bite, chew and eat without any discomfort.
One type of restoration that is used to replace part of a single tooth is a crown.
A crown fits over the remaining part of a prepared tooth that has been affected by tooth decay. The crown is designed to strengthen what is left of the tooth structure and mimics its natural shape and colour, so it fits in with the rest of your teeth.
Also, if you have had root canal treatment you will need a crown to protect or cap the restored tooth, allowing you to eat and bite down on it as if it was a real tooth. Crowns are also used to anchor a bridge or denture firmly in place in the mouth.
